Mapped Projection Project

For this project I have been tasked to research, design and develop a site-specific, projection mapped light show to accompany the undergraduate exhibitions here at NUCA. The
primary purpose of the show will be to impress and intrigue the exhibition visitors,
consisting of VIPs, Industry professionals, family and friends.

3D projection mapping uses spatial augmented reality, this allows for the projection to pinpoint different areas of the chosen object that it is projecting onto to have separate areas highlighted. this also means it gives off the illusions that something is right in front of us and is happing there and then, for example when an entrance crumbles or pushes inwards it gives off the illusion that it is actually happening.

To start this project off I took a look at some of the different areas of the uni and looked for a good wall to hopefully meet the required objectives

this is my desired wall for this project

I feel that this is a really good place to have the projection due to its good architectural structure and the business of the street.

On the opposite side of the street is a perfect place for where the projectors could be placed.
just above the sign in that room could be where the projectors are
Updates

So with the location in mind I then started to think about some ideas of what the projection could include in terms on interactivity. For this I decided to watch some of the really good examples of 3D projection mapping.

this one has been made for Samsung

I really like the way that the hand has been imprinted into the wall making the edge of the bricks being shown.
For my idea I could possibly make it so there is a button that needs to click on and then the building falls down.

this is another example of 3D projection mapping that was made for Adidas

I really this idea of when the projection gives off the illusion that the building is falling down, I feel that this could be integrated into my idea.

just an idea for the switch to make the building collapse

this is what would be left after the destruction and then there would be an area for each course for you to choose from, each on of these areas would have their own little animation when chosen
this a brief idea of how the animation would go
For the other subjects the animations would be;

Fine art - a brush would come out and then brush over the way creating an area for where the work of the students are.

Illustration - a fine liner pen would scribble out the window and then be transported to the work.

Architecture - a mesh grid would over lay the window and then cover the wall and a area for the students work would appear over the mesh.

Games art - a plane would come through the window breaking the glass alongside a character of some sort shooting at the plane and they would re paint the wall for the example work.

Fashion - for this one there could a cat walk falling into the distance of the window and some models walking out and onto a platform and as soon as they turn the students work would appear.

Textiles - a pair of scissors would cut out some fabric of the window and then some needles and some textile measuring tapes would pull the view in through the window showing the examples by students.

Animation - something along the lines of an example exploding the building and then example videos would play of the students work.

Graphics - for this there would be a logo which would spin really fast and when stopped there would be branches coming off of it and the branches would go in and out of the windows with students work on the end.

In order to get back to the start there will be a button where the NUCA sign is next to the entrance.

Sounds for the projection with have something with a good beat but not too fast, also there will be sound effects for the different animations, so for instance for the camera there will be a flash noise and for the gamers art and design one there will be sounds for the plane and shooting.
