So for this new brief it goes like this, some bits of it though are a bit like 'what?'....
Directed Study: Yr 1
and 2
Project Brief
Project Title: 3DS MMO Design
Description
The MMO space is becoming crowded but there is
always room for a new or innovative game to grab a share of the market and
deliver a unique experience. Working in teams of two or three (preferably a mix
of year 1 and 2) design a MMO to the unique technical capabilities of the
Nintendo 3DS.
You will be developing a game pitch to justify
your ideas, the focus being to utilise the 3D and
other unique features of the 3DS in an
innovative way.
Deliverables
2 minute “elevator pitch” with visuals selling your game as the
best thing since sliced
bread.
A condensed design document (no more than 5 pages) outlining the
following:
◦ USP
◦ Game world and setting
◦ World map (labelled)
◦ Projected completion time
◦ Gameplay, including combat design, multiplayer
and co-‐operative play
A condensed “style guide” which visually sets out the art style
for the game no more than 5 A4 pages.
Learning Outcomes covered
LO2: Apply concepts and principles associated
with the subject to a range of professional contexts
and environments.
LO4: Use a range of analytical skills to
effectively review information, in order to identify problems
and propose solutions.
Notes
The gameplay and visual style is much more
important than the narrative when pitching in a short time, so keep the
exposition brief and to the point. The style guide, is not a mood board
and images within should be of intended
game assets, not silhouettes, sketches or analogue drawings. Use sketchup if
you want to include 3D ideas quickly. The exception to this rule is with landscapes
which can be used to set tone but need to be digital and coloured.
Don't neglect things like the gyro controls
and microphone in your designs and be sure to keep
your networking ideas within the technical
capabilities of the machine.
So for this project I have grouped with previous members from the Horror presentation; Kai and Liam, we are going to meet up on Monday to discuss this project more in depth and to discuss where to go with it.
